HISTORY OF HAIR TRANSPLANTATION
In the 19th century, the method of surgical instillation of the scalp with operations was used. The foundations of the modern transplantation technique were laid in Japan in the 1930s by Dermatologist Dr. Okuda. Dr. Okuda, who died in World War II, was discovered after his publications on hair transplantation.
The first hair transplant news of the modern era was heard in New York in the 1950s, when dermatologist Orentreich began hair transplantation on male subjects. First, the idea was that if the hair was transplanted, it could not grow like the original. However, Orentreich showed on the subjects that the hair was growing and permanent.
For two decades surgeons worked on hair grafting, but they were not very successful. In the 1980s, Brazilian Uebel began to use hair transplantation, albeit on a small scale, and the method began to be heard. The fact that it became popular started when Rassman from the USA transplanted thousands of hair follicles at a time with the microsurgical method.
In the late 1980s, Limmer studied the scalp with a three-dimensional microscope.
First introduced in Japan in 1988 by Masumi Inaba, the FUE method, which gradually began to find a place in the medical world with 1mm punches, took its place in the medical literature in 2002 thanks to William R. Rassman and Robert M. Bernstein. In 2007, Dr. Miquen G. Canales and Dr. Robotic FUE hair transplantation method has been developed by David Berman. FUE hair transplantation method forms the basis of robotic hair transplantation.
